Every Smart Component is either Private or Public. A Private Smart Component is created inline in Module Builder and is single-use; it can only be placed in the module where it was created. A Public Smart Component is defined in the Smart Components Hub and can be placed in any module in the environment. Editing its definition propagates the change to every module using it.
This article covers creating and managing Public Smart Components through the Smart Components Hub.
Creating a Smart Component
To create a Smart Component, click 
Libraries in the global header, then select 
Smart Components Hub. Select 
Dashboard in the Explorer panel, then click + Create Component.
Enter the following in the creation dialog:

Name | The display name for the component. This name displays in the component tray in the Module Builder once the component is Public. |

The component opens in the Smart Component Editor immediately after creation.
Component Settings
After creation, access the component's settings from the 
(ellipsis) menu in the editor toolbar and select 
Settings.

Building in the Editor
The Smart Component Editor provides different views based on component type. For a full reference of views and controls, see Smart Component Editor.

Click Save in the toolbar to save the component. Each save is recorded in the History area. Navigating away with unsaved changes displays a confirmation prompt.
Making a Component Public
A new Smart Component created from the Smart Components Hub is Private by default. Private components are available only in the module where they were created and do not display in the component tray.
To make a component Public, select Make Public from the component's row actions menu in the Smart Components Hub Dashboard. Once Public, the component is available in the component tray in every module in the environment. This change is permanent. A Public component cannot be made Private again.
Editing a Smart Component
Private Smart Components can be edited inline in the Module Builder. Select the component on the canvas to open the Focused Component View.
Public Smart Components are edited in the Smart Component Editor. To open a Public component for editing from a module, select it on the canvas and select Edit Component in the Focused Component View toolbar. To open it directly, select it from the Smart Components Hub dashboard or from the Explorer panel.
Edits are saved into a draft. Select Review Changes in the editor toolbar to publish or discard the draft. When published, the change takes effect in every module using the component. See Smart Component Editor for full details.
Promoting to Another Environment
Smart Components are promoted to other environments directly from the Smart Components Hub. The Release Management Dashboard does not support Smart Components. Select 
Promote from the dashboard or from a component's row actions menu to open the promotion dialog.
