You can use it to add new rows of information to an existing data table. Or, you can use it to filter out a specific row of data. Let's say you have a table of patient names, birthdays, and insurance statuses. But you are only interested in looking at one patient's information at a time. You can use the Create Index operator to assign a number to each row and filter by that number. ## Configuration In this how-to guide, you’ll configure a Create Index operator to assign a number to each row of a table and filter by it. ### Configure the Data Table Component First, you'll set up a [Data Table](/v1/docs/data-table-component) component with a list of patient names, dates of birth, and their insurance status. 1. In the Module Builder, drag and drop a **Data Table** component onto your canvas. 2. In the **Property ID** field, enter `dtPatients`. 3. In the data table, enter the following: | firstName | lastName | dob | insurance | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Art | Venere | 11/11/1988 | Yes | | Alisha | Slusarski | 6/30/1974 | No | | Blair | Malet | 12/22/2000 | Yes | | Willow | Kusko | 5/27/1984 | No | | Meaghan | Garufi | 4/13/1994 | Yes | | Abel | Maclead | 2/18/1965 | Yes | | Willow | Kusko | 5/27/1984 | No | | Ernie | Stenseth | 6/1/1966 | Yes | | Jose | Stockham | 11/11/1988 | Yes | > [!NOTE] > You've intentionally added duplicate information for other Create Index use cases. ![Data table displaying patient information including names, dates of birth, and insurance status.](https://cdn.us.document360.io/15548f06-2fba-434c-b0c1-5df88317dbd7/Images/Documentation/UD_dtTable(1).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-08T03%3A56%3A51Z&se=2026-11-08T04%3A56%3A51Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=CDf8voDDhO3twrFK6MSqENB0VF4SguIQHCNkAU38MBg%3D) 4. Click **Save Component**. ### Configure the Initializer Component Now, you'll set up an [Initializer](/v1/docs/initializer-component) component to trigger the [Data Workflow](/v1/docs/data-workflow-component) you’ll configure in a later step. 1. Drag and drop an **Initializer** component onto your canvas, placing it below your Data Table component. 2. In the **Property ID** and **Canvas Label Text** fields, enter `initPatients`. 3. From the **Trigger Type** drop-down, select **New Submission**. 4. In the **Outputs** table, enter the following: | Property ID | Type | Value | | --- | --- | --- | | dwfPatients | trigger | GO | 5. Click **Save Component**. ### Configure the ViewGrid Component Next, add a [ViewGrid](/v1/docs/viewgrid-component) component so your end-user can see the patient information. 1. Drag and drop a **ViewGrid** component onto the canvas, placing it below your Data Table component. 2. In the **Property ID** field, enter `gridPatients`. 3. In the **Canvas Label Text** field, enter `Patients`. 4. In the **Source** column of the **Inputs** and **Outputs** tables, enter `dtPatients`. 5. In the **Display** table, enter the following: | ID | Formula | Heading | | --- | --- | --- | | index | | Chart Number | | firstName | | First Name | | lastName | | Last Name | | dob | | Date of Birth | | insurance | | Insurance? | 6. In the **Action** field, enter `null`. 7. Click **Save Component**. ### Configure the Data Workflow Component Now, you'll set up your [Data Workflow](/v1/docs/data-workflow-component). You'll configure your [Create Index](/v1/docs/create-index-operator) operator to assign a chart number to each patient. You'll configure the operator to number each row starting with **[1]**. After that, you'll set up a [Filter](/v1/docs/filter-operator) operator to filter for a specific chart number and output it to your [ViewGrid](/v1/docs/viewgrid-component) component. For this example, you'll configure the Data Workflow to filter chart number **[4]**. You'll also add a couple of [Console](/v1/docs/console-operator) operators to see the results of the Filter operator. 1. Drag and drop a **Data Workflow** component onto your canvas, placing it below your ViewGrid component. 2. In the **Property ID** and **Canvas Label Text** fields, enter `dwfPatients`. #### Configure the First Input Operator 1. Drag and drop an **Input** operator onto your Data Workflow canvas. 2. Configure the operator's **Info** window as follows: | Setting | Value | | --- | --- | | Category | Input | | Component | dtPatients | | Required | No | | Source | Default | #### Configure the Create Index Operator 1. Trigger types include Concurrent, Post, and Error. Some components do not have the ability to trigger others. A Property ID is the unique field ID used by Unqork to track and link components in your module. Canvas Label Text indicates the purpose of the corresponding field or component. For non-input components, the Canvas Label Text isn't end-user facing, and only appears in the . Deteremines how the component triggers. The component fires when the page or called module loads without an existing submission ID. Dashboards and remote execute modules are great uses for this trigger. End-users, also known as Express Users, are the individuals accessing an application through Express View. In most cases, end-users are the customers using the product. Enter inputs components and actions you want the component to perform.. Express View is how your end-user views your application. Express View also lets you preview your applications to test your configuration and view the styling. This is also the view your end-users will see when interacting with your application. After configuring a module, click Preview in the Module Builder to interact with the module in Express View. The DevTools Console helps you securely store, build, test, and deploy your software.
