The Global Variables Administration page is where administrators define environment-wide key-value pairs that Creators can reference in modules. Global variables are ideal for configuration values shared across multiple modules, like base URLs or environment identifiers. > [!WARNING] > Do not use global variables to store sensitive data like API keys or secrets. Global variable values are visible to Creators while building in the UnqorkAI platform. ## Global Variable List The list displays all global variables configured in the environment. ![[docs-mockup:DocsAdminListCanvas] Administration panel overview](https://cdn.us.document360.io/15548f06-2fba-434c-b0c1-5df88317dbd7/Images/Documentation/api_upload_20260911_191344_a84d8493f45c4fe7810041228acf46ca.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-07T18%3A09%3A38Z&se=2026-11-07T19%3A09%3A38Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=OjSafez5PMZRSrN%2FzihKe0ywsSeO8NctifDmpu%2F8sWE%3D) | Column | Description | | --- | --- | | **Key** | The global variable name used to reference this value in modules. Must begin with a letter or underscore, followed by any combination of letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores. | | **Description** | An optional description of the global variable's purpose. | | **Server-Side Only** | When checked, the global variable value is only available during server-side execution and is not accessible in the browser or to end-users. | | **Value** | The value assigned to this global variable. | | **Actions** | Global variable actions. See [Global Variable Actions](/unqorkai/docs/global-variables-administration#global-variable-actions). | ### Page Actions | Action | Description | | --- | --- | | **Add Variable** | Adds a new row to the table. Complete the fields and click **Save** to create the global variable, or **Cancel** to discard. | ### Global Variable Actions These actions display for each existing global variable in the list. | Action | Description | | --- | --- | | **Edit** | Makes the row editable. Click **Save** to confirm changes or **Cancel** to discard. | | **Delete** | Permanently removes the global variable. This action cannot be undone. | > [!WARNING] > Deleting a global variable breaks any module that references it. Remove all references to the global variable from all modules before deleting it. ## Promote Global Variables The Promote Global Variables page moves global variables from the current environment to a target environment. Promoting a variable overwrites any existing value for that variable in the target environment. | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | **Target Environment** | The destination environment for this promotion. Required. | | **Variables to Promote** | The variables to include in this promotion. All variables are selected by default. Select or clear individual checkboxes to adjust the selection, or use **Select All** and **Deselect All** to adjust the full list at once. | Click **Promote** to begin the promotion. --- **Changelog** | Date | Change | | --- | --- | | — | Initial publication. | A key-value pair is a fundamental data structure where a unique "key" is associated with a specific "value," used for organizing and retrieving data efficiently, like in dictionaries or databases. Also known as Unqork Users, or Designer Users; is anyone who is inside the Unqork platform. APIs (application programming interfaces) are a set of protocols and definitions developers use to build and integrate application software. APIs act as the connective tissue between products and services. Authentication secrets are a value of confidential information. For example, a password, security token, or cryptographic key, that is used to verify a user's identity during the authentication process to grant access to a system or application. Includes the Short Answer component, Long Answer component, Select Boxes, Radio component, Dropdown, Number component and Single Checkbox. End-users, also known as Express Users, are the individuals accessing an application through Express View. In most cases, end-users are the customers using the product. ## Related - [Audit Logs](/audit-logs-overview.md) - [Style Administration CSS Upload](/style-administration-css-upload.md) - [Style Administration](/style-administration.md)
