# Deleting Branches

Permanently delete a branch from a versioned application when it is no longer needed. Common reasons include finishing a feature after publishing or abandoning work on a branch.

> Deleting a branch is permanent and cannot be undone. Any changes on the branch that have not been published or merged are lost.

## Delete a Branch

Deleting a branch requires delete permission on the application.

To delete a branch:

1. In the module toolbar, click the checkout pill.
2. 3. If the branch has unmerged changes, a warning displays the number of changes that will be lost permanently.
4. Review the warning, then click **Delete Branch** to confirm.

A confirmation message displays. If the deleted branch was the active working context, the platform navigates to the most recently published version automatically.

## Unmerged Changes Warning

Before deleting, the platform counts how many items on the branch differ from its base version. If the branch has unmerged changes, the confirmation dialog displays a message like "This branch has 3 unmerged changes that are not in v1.0.0. Deleting it will discard those changes permanently."

Review this count carefully. To keep those changes, publish or merge the branch first.
