# Default Version

Every versioned application has a default version. The default version is what end-users see when they access the application without a specific version in the URL. It is also the version other applications use when they reference this application as a dependency.

## How the Default Version Works

When publishing a branch, selecting **Make Published Version Default** sets the new version as the default immediately. If that option is not selected, the existing default stays in place and the new version is available but not the active default.

## Set the Default Version

Setting a default version requires update permission on the application.

1. In the module toolbar, click the checkout pill.
2. 3. The action only displays on versions that are not already the default.
4. Review the confirmation dialog and click **Set as Default** to confirm.
